Sustainable Design Solutions

Our engineers have a wealth of knowledge regarding sustainable design solutions. We at Kinetic Engineers are committed to providing low carbon, energy efficient designs. Our experienced team provide in depth analysis to the most efficient method of reducing the Building Emission Rates and hence energy costs prior to the specified design package.

We have experience with various different standards and provide the following services for sustainable design solutions:

BREEAM was the first sustainability standard and focuses on the building’s life cycle costs.
BREEAM certification can be very attractive to property owners looking to rent out or sell their properties. The certification means that the operational costs and the carbon emissions from the building are significantly lower than a standard building.
The BREEAM ratings range from Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent to Outstanding and it is reflected in a series of stars on the BREEAM certificate.

An accredited BREEAM assessor is appointed early on in the project. The assessor identifies certain points in which the design must meet in order to gain a targeted mark. It is then up to the designers within that project to achieve the required points through sustainable building design. Each rating also comes with a set level of minimum standards. For example, in order to achieve Excellent status, Man04 for stakeholder participation must be met.

Achieving the required credits on a project for BREEAM can be a very onerous task. Our engineers know the BREEAM points and the methods to achieve the credits where required.

WELL certification maximises the environmental qualities within buildings to ensure the occupants health and wellbeing is prioritised. These qualities include minimising the air pollution levels, regularly checking the water filtration levels and ensuring that the correct light levels are provided. Our engineers will ensure the WELL standards are met to maximise public health within the building. We can guide you through the route of the application to achieve a WELL building rating.

The SKA rating quantifies a value of the sustainability of non-domestic fit outs. The measures used in the SKA rating are chosen to be relevant for each individual project. This is to be done at the start of the project by a qualified SKA Assessor.

Our engineers will liaise with the client to ensure the SKA rating is maximised within acceptable design and cost parameters.

Case Studies

Leechmere Independent Living Centre Compac approached Kinetic Engineers to survey the boiler room at Sunderland City Council’s Independent Living Centre on the Leechmere Industrial Estate and design a new system. Following our site survey, Kinetic’s MEP design team were able to quickly produce a new proposal that featured a much smaller and more efficient alternate […]
Tollgate – Quinns Tollgate Gardens is a development located within the Croydon region. The new development will accommodate 195 new homes, on top of 53 homes retained in Tollgate House over multiple blocks. Half of the homes across the Tollgate Gardens estate will be affordable housing for the community. We were employed by Quinn London directly to carry out the […]
