Wards 31 and 32 Refurbishment
To meet the client’s programme Kinetic completed the tender design
in 2 weeks from appointment to enable the programme to be met. The construction period was programmed for 8 weeks and the works had to be carried out on the fifth floor of an eight storey building.
The adjacent floors containing wards had to remain in continual use and therefore the new works had to be designed to minimise noise and disruption to the adjacent service users and staff.
The project also included the provision of a new 4 bed HDU, to meet the requirements of HBN 54, therefore with medical gas pendants, hoists, close control ventilation systems and patient hoists.
John Rhodes, Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and project manager for the
refurbishment said: “The new model surgical wards have been completed to an extremely high standard and should set a precedent for the standard of future hospital refurbishments.”
